Private Lessons
During your one-on-one private lessons, you will receive personalized instruction that will help you achieve your goals in dancing. Your instructor will spend the time necessary on technique, styling and general dance improvement. An up-to-date record of everything you have leared will also be kept as part of your instruction.
Group Lessons
Group lessons are an important addendum to your private instruction. They give you the opportunity to dance with a variety of partners, develop good dance habits and meet other students in the studio.
In Group Lessons we emphasize technique, style and variation of patterns. You may be taught material that your regular instructor hasn't introduced to you yet. Additionally, material that has been introduced will be reviewed and practiced for improvement.
Group lessons are held for different dances and levels.
Practice Parties
We hold scheduled dance parties (practice sessions) for all our students. These practice parties are held on a weekly basis. You will have fun dancing with the instructors and students in a relaxed and comfortable environment. This gives you the opportunity to practice and try out all the new dance skills that you've learned in your Private and Group Lessons.
Medal Ball
An Arthur Murray Medal Ball is a gala dance event honoring students who "graduate" from one level of their dance program to the next. Medal Balls also afford students the opportunity to enjoy their dancing in a fun and elegant setting.
Showcase
A Showcase is a one-day event where students present dance routines with personalized choreography. These routines make an exciting addition to your Medalist Program because they allow you to develop showmanship and musical expression along with your social dance skills.
Dance-O-Rama® (Dance Sport)
A Dance-O-Rama (or Dance Sport Competition) is an exciting two or three day event that brings students together from many Arthur Murray studios to compete, at their level, in cances of their choice. This requires specialized dance training to polish and perfect choreography, technique and style. The weekend is full of activities such as dance competitions, cocktail parties, dinner dances and exciting professional shows.
TYPES OF PROGRAMS AND MEDALIST STANDARDS OF THE ARTHUR MURRAY DANCE SCHOOLS
The Arthur Murray Franchised Dance Studios have found that students learn most quickly and effectively on a scholastic basis.
The degree of dancing you will achieve varies depending on your desire, goals, commitment and interest.
Your Introductory Program is the first student level.
Introductory Program
Our Introductory program is designed as a prelude to the popular social dances and the teaching methods of the Arthur Murray Dance Studios. It’s designed to fulfill your immediate dance needs while allowing your instructor an opportunity to evaluate your dancing with respect to your future learning.
The Basic Program develops the most important dances you plan to use immediately at a basic level. Emphasis is placed on three important elements of dancing:
- Foot position
- Rhythm and timing
- Leading or following
With enough variety to keep your learning experience interesting.
After your Basic Program, the dance levels progress from Associate and Full Medalist programs in Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold Bar Standards.
These courses are designed for people like yourself who desire a fundamental foundation or more advanced training in the social as well as competitive (dance sport) styles.
The majority of students who come to an Arthur Murray Dance Studio are interested in becoming good social dancers and our medalist programs will help you achieve that goal.
If competitive dancing is your desire, Arthur Murray Dance Studios can train you in the latest technique, steps and styles. Indeed, we boast some of the top competitive couples in the world today.
Associate Bronze
This is the program for the impatient dancer. It will develop free movement around the floor, much more variety, technique, fottwork, and your first introduction to styling. This dance program is very popular with the person that wants to get on the floor right away.
The associate Bronze Program will help you acquire freer movement around the floor while expanding your variety, technique and footwork. Associate Bronze dancers also begin to develop portrayal of dance’s characteristics in the form of styling. This dance program is very popular with those wanting to get on the dance floor quickly.
Full Bronze Program
Full Bronze is the complete Social Dance program taught by the Arthur Murray Dance Studios. It’s designed to develop timing and techniques in all Social Dances selected by the student. The styling will make you look and feel comfortable on the dance floor and strengthen your lead and following regardless of your partner, the music being played or the type of dance floor. Bronze dancers have all the confidence anyone would need on the floor because they have reached the “fun point” in dancing. Dancing techniques at this level will be yours to keep as you’ll never forget the elements of each dance.
Silver Program
Silver is the dance standard with a high degree of styling. More elaborate movements ensure the Silver dancer will stand out on any dance floor. Continuity of movements makes a couple glide across the dance floor with many natural directional changes. Styling, technique, balance and control take on an entirely new meaning. This is the beginning of the more professional standard used mainly on the ballroom floor.
Gold Program
Our Gold standard is strictly for the hobby dancer interested in performances, exhibitions or competitions. Its intricate patterns are only to be used when both partners are proficient. Choreography, styling, technique and showmanship are necessities in this standard. This material is generally not used on a crowded floor. There is a lot of work involved in this program, but you will truly be regarded as an outstanding dancer, able to excel in any dance.
